| I am interested in exploring the tension between seduction and demand, freedom and possession, and the im/possibility of mutual union.
I am interested in understanding this as an embodied and engaged enterprise; from my position, something makes 'sense' only if it can be sensually lived and experienced. Therefore my search lies under the spell of the sensuous, whilst thinking on the edge of capturing another's being through language, words, and touch, if only in order to set them free and, in doing so, possibly experience freedom myself.
Perspective, ambiguity, surface, and depth, the precarious stability of maintaining a sense of self, are but some of the issues fore-fronted and exposed in the realm of the sensuous. It goes without saying that in everyday engagements it is primarily, and perhaps necessarily, on the surface that we usually meet. But, in my experience, surface can also easily overshadow deep sexual encounters, whether through superficial aesthetics, or more dangerously, the idea that the more extreem the practice the 'deeper' it goes.
So much for the march under a sunless sky....
Although mature in years, I still feel excited - and hopeful, and afraid - of meeting someone who might understand my vision; I don't know if that is possible here, or what it would mean, or how it might disturb my world.
There is much more to say, of course, as everyone has their narratives to tell. For the most part though, I have always found myself more interested in others' than in my own. |
