June 5, 2009 - Well, since my last post i've managed to slip out of rythm twice .. had to have another cardioversion in April [my 8th in 2 yrs] .. today my cardiologist confirmed that i'm out again .. this time he wants to do another ablation. Not feeling too bad, just slightly weak and tired .. my bp's up a bit, guess that explains the headaches i've been having lately - nothing too bad though. my grandson is now 4 mos old - how time flies!

Feb 21, 2009 - Things are still going good. Became a grandmother 2 wks ago .. a boy! I was there when he was born and stayed with my daughter and her boyfriend for the 2 wks. All are doing well.

Nov 16, 2008 - Speaking of not lasting .. just got 'back on track' and then things fizzled! This past Mon i was just sitting at my kitchen table having a cup of tea .. started to feel dizzy .. nauseous .. shaky .. vision blurring .. after a min or so i thought it would be best to go lay down .. as soon as i stood up my legs turned to rubber and down i went. Don't think i passed out, just collapsed .. luckily hubby was home, i called him to help me up .. i walked a few steps and collapsed again. i went to lay down for about 10 mins then we went off to the hospital .. they kept me .. didn't get out until Fri afternoon. They're trying a new med that has to be closely monitored for 3 days .. started on it late Tues .. can only hope that this one 'does the trick'.

Oct 31, 2008 - For some reason the last cardioversion didn't last too long .. a little over a week ago i started feeling very tired and having dizzy spells. Went to my dr and an ekg verified what i had suspected. Wound up in an ambulance on the way to the ER .. since my blood level in my last 4 tests weren't all where they should be they had to make sure there were no blood clots around my heart .. that requires feeding a tube down my throat with a camera at the end .. they do have you gargle and then swallow a numbing agent .. they cleared me for 'take off' so i got zapped once again. When they checked me later they tried putting a tongue depresser down my throat ... there was no 'gag relfex' so they said i couldn't go home until that came back i have to admit it did occur to me that it would have been very usefull for a 'deep throat' session ;-) It's still not fully back, odd since they said it should have worn off in a few hours, they finally let me go home 'as is' though. Not sure why i went out of rhythm this time .. hopefully things will stay 'in sync' a bit longer this time.

Aug 24,2008 - Well lowering the meds turned out to not be such a great idea. Went for the stress test and found out i was back in A-fib! Had to have another cardioversion to get it back then they chg'd the meds back.

July 20, 2008 - It's been awhile since i updated this, things are still going pretty well. Just saw the cardio doc a few weeks ago .. another chg in meds [2 of them this time] and another stress test scheduled in a few weeks. Will be seeing him again in Oct and, if things go well he may stop the 2 meds that he just decreased. Still losing weight .. up to 85 lbs now. Good news for my daughter - she's been seeing someone since Jan - just found out she's going to have a baby! Wasn't sure she could since her and my late son-in-law had tried for a few years with no success.

Feb 23, 2008 - Another stress test and a chg in one med .. another MRI, no word on that yet but i am still in rythm ;-) This past year i had put on some pounds so i joined Jenny Craig in Nov .. so far i've lost 55lbs ;-) Hard to believe you can lose weight by eating! Plan on starting to excercise soon .. didn't want to 'chance it' while the heart was still 'off'.

Jan 5, 2008 - A new year, hopefully a new start. The zap on 12/20 seems to have 'done the trick' so far .. that and a chg in one of my meds is keeping my heart rythm regular [keeping fingers crossed]. |

Dec 25, 2007 -
Catching up here .. had a cardiac ablation early this month, follwed by another 'zap' session the next day. The ablation lasted 6 hrs .. i was 'knocked out' but still felt the after effects of the breathing tube they inserted for the procedure .. my throat was sore and wicked dry for days, Again the 'zap' didn't last, they changed one of my meds and zapped me again a few weeks later. My blood level wasn't quite what they wanted so they had to check for blood clots around the heart first .. another tube down my throat only i was awake for this one! A long tube with a camera at the end .. the fun never ends ;-) At this point my bp has gone from being high to running low and now my heart rate has slowed down ,, i wonder what's next. i do hope you all have a great holiday and a healthy and happy new year!

Got zapped again 2 days ago .. this time they had to 'hit' me 3x before it took. Now i have a monitor i have to use to send in daily readings of my heart rate .. kinda like a mini ekg - the size of a deck of cards with only 2 wires to 'plug in' to snaps on either side of my chest .. i have to call the hospital and send the reading over the phone .. only need to do that for a few weeks then i'm scheduled for a stress test. The fun never ends ;-)

The 'zap' didn't last long .. saw my cardiologist today .. ekg confirmed i'm back in a-fib now. Have to go back for another 'shot' .. this time he says he'll try another med afterwards. Needless to say, i'm stil keepig things 'on hold' for now.

Well it worked .. took 2 'zaps' but i'm back to regular rythm now. Can finally walk without getting 'winded'. Still dealing with other issues but this is a big help.

The 'shock treatment' is scheduled for the 5th .. hopefully i'll come out of it ok .. there is a miniscule chance of a stroke or possibly worse .. i'm going to have to keep a positive outlook and hope for the best.

My carido doc wants to do the 'shock treatment' on my heart to try to get it back into regular rythm. My bp's been running very high lately so i have to take it myself a few times a day for a couple of weeks and send him the results. Not looking forward to the 'shock' but if it will make me feel better it's worth a try. .

Had the pill treatment in June .. it did help, my thyroid is definitely shrinking .. it's still working, the Dr said it will take about 6 mos. Still get 'winded' easily so walking even just a block is a bit much

Finally had another test and the 'pill' treatment is scheduled within a week .. i'll have to be in seclusion of sorts .. as if mere contact would make me a 'danger' to others. Kinda makes you question why it's so 'safe' for me but if it works it will certainly be like a 'breath of fresh air'.

Spoke to surgeon, going to try radiation pill therapy first. Pill should iradicate the thyroid, hopefully soon after my heart will go back to regular rythm, if not i may need to have a 'shock treatment' on it. Hope this all to be behind me soon! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Still dealing with the same issues .. talking to a surgeon next week, possible surgical removal of my thyroid or having it 'zapped' out with a radiation pill. Hopefully that will 'set things right' with my heart as well. i do check out the msg boards here but not looking to 'hook up' with anyone, in any way, right now,

As if i'm already not experiencing a bad time with our recent loss .. an ambulance trip and a 2 day stay in the hospital have brought to light some internal 'problems'. High blood pressure, an overactive thyroid and atrial fibrilation all managed to rear up at once. i'm now taking 3 different kinds of meds and have a number of dr's appts already scheduled. Perhaps when things 'settle down' i'll be able to venture out again.

Things aren't going well for me right now, my 33 yr old son-in-law just passed away very suddenly .. my daughter will need my time & support which won't be leaving me much time for 'outside activities' for some time. |
