I am working on building a story/world that focuses on female incarceration in a fictional world. The world has a lot of elements from our modern world. So there are phones, cars, a global "internet" like network, cameras etc. However, there is a very strict social top-down hierarchy imposed by a mysterious race of rarely seen of creatures.
In this world, there is a place of incarceration for women who have are classified (by semi-benevolent authorities) as having issues being "normal" people. This is the focus of the story. This isn't like a traditional prison from today (a place to either punish or rehabilitate criminals), but in a dystopian (or I guess utopian for some) world to contain those who are deemed unable to integrate with the social order are taken. Many of the prisoners are unaware of their captivity, since they have been of a lower caste their whole lives (and know no other way), while others are from higher social ranks (that have fallen from grace).
The end-result is going to be a series of short-stories and, (hopefully) mockumentary that details the lives of the prisoners in these facilities (told from the perspective of the "official narrative" perpetuated by the "Ankati" ask about them).
There is, essentially, an entire social caste of "inepts" - people who are placed in these facilities. Many of them are "criminals" in the traditional sense, but there are also orphans who reach adult age, vagrants who are found and unidentified (have no social ranking score), general malcontents and agitators who are classed as "inept" and sent to these special "care" centers.
