Each of the 'mortifications of the flesh' demands an intense concentration as you feel the sting that will soon turn to a welt. Your discipline may need to be humiliating, because a tearful session and appropriate contrition strip away the false ego. it can be arousing. And those things are also part of the process. Acceding to the will or wants or whims of the man willing to provide the discipline shows gratitude, humbleness and appreciation.
