The Center for Alternative Lifestyles is pleased to present Laura Antoniou on Saturday, November 15 with a day of events including two education classes, a book reading and a dungeon party in the evening. For those of you familiar with BDSM and D/s fiction, you likely know her to be the amazing author of The Marketplace series of books. However, Laura is much more than an author. She has spoken at many major lifestyle events and brings the ability to educate using plain languague, in-depth knowledge and humor (very important) to the topics. Some of you have seen her speak at "Thunder in the Mountains" in Denver and I've been hearing that you are very excited she is coming.

The price for the day and evening's events is only $30 if purchased by October 31. This includes admittance to the classes, the book reading AND the play party. Tickets purchased AFTER October 31 will be $40 per person. PLEASE NOTE: This event must be a break even event for the Center. Therefore, if the number of tickets sold by October 31 do not pay the expenses to bring Laura to Kansas City for the event, we will be forced to cancel it. If the event is cancelled due to not enough sales, your purchase will be refunded in full.

Lunches will be available for purchase on Saturday if you wish to stay and socialize with Laura and the other attendees. As always, food will be served at the dungeon party in the evening. You can look forward to a great day of socializing, fun, and education, culminating with play in the evening in the CfAL dungeon. We have added new equipment to the dungeon, we think you'll agree that the options for play are limitless!

Class descriptions for the two classes presented by Laura are shown below:

Tell Me What You Want, What You Really Really Want

(90-120 minutes)

Often, when we try to tell our partners what we like or want, those words are filtered through things like expectations, projection, fear, shame and verbal shortcuts. Expand your creativity and verbal skills beyond I like flogging" or "anything you want" through an interactive game and exercise. Learn how creative communication and courageous risk-taking can make your relationship and play more intimate, satisfying and fun. Say what you mean, and mean what you say and make it seductive.

Too Kinky for Words: Playing way off the edge

(90-120 minutes)

Everyone loves to claim they play on the edge, or their

style of being kinky is somehow greater than the

average pervert. Yet even among the uber-kinky,

there are those of us who have fantasies - or play

styles - which seem to be beyond what is considered

"acceptable." Is your kink really "OK"? How can you

tell? Are there boundaries to fantasies? Should there be?

Should we/can we own our most unmentionable ones? How do you share fantasies with a partner if they make you uncomfortable? This workshop is more of a guided discussion group on the process of identifying, naming, sharing and potentially enacting our scariest fantasies. It's not about being outrageous to shock others - it's about fear of community mores, worries about personal

responsibility, shameful eroticism and secret joys.

This is a "closed door" workshop - once it begins, we

will close the door on the outside world, both vanilla

and kinky, and let loose. Participants must come

prepared to write down a fantasy or playstyle

(anonymously, if they wish) and turn it in to the

presenter.

Tickets can be purchased by sending payment to Paypal at www.paypal.com. Send your payment to cfal.kcmo@yahoo.com with the names of the attendees. Money order purchase should include the same information and can be sent to:

About Laura Antoniou:

Laura Antoniou has been writing erotica for over 20 years, when her day job permits her the time. She lives in Queens with her wife Karen, and happily serves as boy to Kim Attica. Friends have called her all sorts of names. Current favorites being "Renaissance Perv" by Fetish Diva Midori, "Good Boy!" by Kim and of course, "best thing that ever happened to me" by Karen.

Laura is best known these days for her "Marketplace" series of novels, but back in the beginning, when pickings for good and readable porn was slim, Laura created the groundbreaking "Leatherwomen" anthologies, and edited several others. Some of the work she created for those anthologies are reprinted in The Catalyst and Other Tales. Laura's work has been published in the United States, Germany, Japan, and Korea, to international acclaim. Her short stories and non-fiction essays also appear in other anthologies, a full listing of which can be found at Books.

She is personally featured in Writing Below the Belt:
Conversations with Erotic Authors, by Michael Rowe and The Burning Pen: Sex Writers on Sex Writing, by M.Christian. Laura was also a columnist for Girlfriends magazine from 1995-1997, the submissions editor for Badboy and Bi-Curious magazines from 1995-96, and a regular contributor to The SandMUtopia Guardian from 1993-2000.

The Marketplace series describes "an elite and secretive world organization, dedicated to the auctioning and overseeing of the world's finest lifestyle slaves... a world so vivid in sequel after sequel, it takes on a reality of its own, one that's visually hard to let go of once the reader has put down the book." (Libido Magazine).
Fans are delighted that Laura plans several more novels in the series -- look for "The Inheritor," "Slaves of the Marketplace,' and more.

If you like her writing, you'll love her presentations!
"She is always a cool presenter, funny, but very informative,"

Mapping Your D/s Archetype

Leather relationships don't come with guaranteed operating manuals. Often, we just stumble along, attempting to make it work. We may try to superimpose the structures of others' apparently successful relationships, or the models presented in fiction. Unfortunately, this doesn't take into consideration our own, and our partner's, needs, visions, and goals. To address this problem, join this interactive class designed to help D/s - M/s individuals, leather families as well as the curious to find their own relationship archetypes. We'll begin to diagram the expectations, boundaries, goals, etc. for your current and future relationships. This can lead to information necessary in creating protocols and fleshing out the details of daily interactions. Individuals, couples, and groups are all welcome. No experience in D/s necessary. Be prepared to do some hard work now to help reduce heartaches down the road! Great for those who are very experienced to totally new and just curious.
