Friends:

I am getting to know someone who is very special to me. New friends are always welcome. Old profile is below: Seeking beauty, grace, integrity, intelligence, vulnerability, devotion, and strength. Then again, there's a lot to be said for modesty. * * * I'm on here mainly because I want to find the right girl for me. I'm usually up for talking with interesting people, too. For me, dominance and submission are a way of expressing -- and building -- the kind of intimacy that feels fulfilling to me. Either that, or I'm just a demanding, unreasonable guy who wants a girl to demonstrate her eagerness to please me by performing unspeakable acts of devotion... I want what I want when I want it. Not a bedroom-play-only type. If you want a relationship where the D/s connection gets turned on and off depending on whether both people feel like "playing," I'm not your guy. A big hitch: Submission by itself won't hold my interest or scratch all my itches. I want a girl who I'll continue to find enticing a good long time from now. I don't want to miss out on any of the good stuff that my fine vanilla brethren get to share with their nilla gals: goofy bad jokes, good times with friends and family, music and movies, politics, shared exploration of external as well as internal geographies. I am not into scat, blood, public play parties, wearing silly leather outfits, being called Daddy. Caring, consideration, and tenderness, are all important to me (among other, more challenging, things) but I'll still pass on that particular label. I also have a profile on F...e...t.... You can see some of my writing there, if you're curious.

Ask not what your man can do for you.

Ask what you can do for your man.

Some big changes ahead. I'm moving soon to the Chicago area, and looking forward to it.

"They were branded, and deeply scarred."

"The Devil's mark. Those in the service of the Demon are irrevocably marked. His claws rake across them to seal their obedience."

--Penny Dreadful

I'm not into cutting, much less anything satanic. But in a way it still feels relevant.

Especially because one of the best things about Penny Dreadful is how it connects our phantasmagorical fears to the real darkness we fear within ourselves.

"...the thing I've been thinking about the most ... is loss. ... really the meaning we all make of our losses. Deaths of loved ones, the phases of our children's lives hurtling by, jobs and relationships we never imagined would end. All of it. Among other things, our lives are compendiums of loss and change and what we make of it."

Timely words from, of all things, GQ magazine talking about Colbert.

Science documentarian on the radio says she tested mathematicians' hypothesis that it takes 1000 licks to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll Pop.

http://www.sciencefriday.com/video/07/06/2015/the-lollipop-hypothesis.html

It took her 720. The radio interviewer did not ask if she is an exceptionally good licker.

A Mother's Day poem by Mary Karr.

ENTERING THE KINGDOM

As the boys bones lengthened,
and his head and heart enlarged,
his mother one day failed

to see herself in him.
He was a man then, radiating
the innate loneliness of men.

His expression was ever after
beyond her. When near sleep
his features eased towards childhood,

it was brief.
She could only squeeze
his broad shoulder. What could

she teach him
of loss, who now inflicted it
by entering the kingdom

of his own will?

"The modern situation is predicated upon the illusion of the self?s isolation?that business of ?I?m alone, you?re alone, we can bullshit each other when we?re fucking or whatever else, but the truth is we?re alone. Right?? Well, I believe that that is fundamentally an illusion." --David Milch (again)

"To use an instrument to open up another person without a loving, terrified humility is the unpardonable sin." --David Milch on Nathaniel Hawthorne This resonates with me on an emotional level. Sorry to any disappointed edgeplayers who may be reading this.

It's got more theatrics and overall fanciness than is really my style, but I still enjoyed this video:

I'm not big on pet play, but this is charming:

Thought-provoking examination of literature, culture, the creative process, and some kink stuff here:

http://www.salon.com/2012/09/28/sheila_heti_gets_sex_wrong/

I haven't actually read Sheila Heti, so I don't have a particular opinion about the writer's main point, which is a critique of Heti's new novel.  And the writer doesn't get into D/s the way it matters to me, but that's ok -- that's not what the essay's about.  But I was struck (and a bit bummed out) by the part of the essay that digs into how D/s can be a solitary experience, the opposite of seeking intimacy.  Not exactly a news flash, still some interesting insights.

Maybe a good reminder (as if anyone needs that on this site) of how many people are seeking very different things -- or similar-looking things for very different reasons -- and of how precious real intimacy, honest revelation, and vulnerabilty are.

Heard on Car Talk this morning:  "If it's any comfort to you, my wife's vulva, which is practically brand new, does exactly the same thing."  Maybe America is shedding some its puritanism?  I might miss it already.

Then again, I have really enjoyed hearing NPR's announcers pronounce "Pussy Riot" so often lately.

"The world's largest manufacturer of human heart cells..." --just overheard on the radio.

"Love is merely a madness, and, I tell you, deserves as well a dark house and a whip as madmen do: and the reason why they are not so punished and cured is, that the lunacy is so ordinary that the whippers are in love too." As You Like It, Act III, Scene 2. It doesn't speak well to the state of mental health care in Elizabethan times, and indicates an opposite view from mine as to the desired effect of a whipping, but for some reason it's sweet and charming anyway.
